ExactMetrics Asset Files Blocked

Are you seeing this message from time to time?

ExactMetrics has detected that it’s files are being blocked. This is usually caused by a adblock browser plugin (particularly uBlock Origin), or a conflicting WordPress theme or plugin…

On rare occasions, this notice can appear due to a WordPress plugin or theme conflict. But usually, the most common reason is due to browser extensions such as:

  • adblock plugins (uOrigin, AdblockPlus)
  • privacy enhancements (Ghostery)
  • or other similar plugins

These plugins may sometimes cause conflict by blocking ExactMetrics’s admin files.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to fix this problem by whitelisting your domain within your browser extensions to allow ExactMetrics to work as expected on your website.

If you’re using multiple extensions, you may need to reload several times to achieve whitelisting.

uBlock / uBlock Origin

  1. While viewing your WordPress site, click on the uBlock / uBlock Origin icon.
  2. To whitelist your website, click on the “power” button.
  3. Refresh the page.

Adblock Plus

  1. While viewing your WordPress site, click the Adblock Plus icon.
  2. Disable ad-blocking by clicking the “Enabled on this site” button.
  3. If you’re using Firefox, click on “disable on {yoururl}.com”.
  4. Refresh the page.

Firefox Tracking Protection

  1. If you’re using Firefox, their build-in “Tracking Protection” may trigger ExactMetric’s adblock notice. This will be visible as a “shield” icon within the URL bar.
  2. Temporarily disable this feature while you browse your WordPress site by clicking on the “shield” icon and following the instructions.
  3. You may need to do this per browsing session.

  1. While viewing your WordPress site, click the Ad Block icon.
  2. Find and click on “Don’t run on pages on this domain”.
  3. Refresh the page.

  1. While viewing your WordPress site, click the Ghostery icon.
  2. Depending on what version you’re using:

    • Click “Whitelist site” (Ghostery versions < 6.0).
    • Or click “trust site” (Ghostery version 7.0).
  3. A message may appear “Site is whitelisted” (Ghostery versions < 6.0).
  4. Refresh the page.

  1. While viewing your WordPress site, click the Disconnect icon.
  2. Then click on “Whitelist site”.

Corporate, Governmental and Institutional Network content filtering, hosts files and JavaScript blocking

If you’re using a firewall or have something in place that blocks software in general, this may trigger the adblock notice as a result of blocking files and scripts required to display ads.
